The Importance of Sharing Venison
How do you begin to create a dialogue with non-hunters? Should you aim to change their minds or just work to maintain their support? There are a few different ways to begin these conversations, but one of the best is what Steven Rinella of Meat Eater TV calls “venison diplomacy.” Here's how to get started sharing venison and why it's so important.

A Guide to Wildlife Food Plots and Early Successional Plants
This highly anticipated second edition of what has been called "the food plot manual" continues to provide the latest science-based information related to growing and managing food plots for wildlife. The most substantial addition to this second edition is the plant identification guide. Although much of the information in this manual is based on research conducted throughout the South, Dr. Harper has incorporated information from research conducted in other regions to provide recommendations for anywhere else food plots are planted in the U.S. This book is 444 pages with full color images.
Dirk Dieterich’s Kansas buck is carrying a great set of headgear, so congratulations to the 67% of respondents who did not let that influence them and saw the clear body characteristics that speak to 3½ years for this buck. It’s the peak of the rut in this photo, so he’s in prime body shape for aging, and he’s got the classic “front-heavy” or “buffalo” look of a 3 ½-year old, with a front end (shoulders, chest and neck) that is larger and more well developed than the hindquarters. His stomach is slim, not sagging or narrow, and his neck is large but does not quite join the shoulders at the brisket. He’s also relatively “long-legged” for his body size. He’s got all the classic signs of 3½.
Here's a New Age This! Buck
Joe Terry got this photo of an eastern Oklahoma buck on September 1. The rut peaks there in November.
