Living in a residential neighborhood can challenge you to find alternative means to hone your shooting skills and prepare for processing your own venison. NDA has joined a coalition of ten of the nation’s leading conservation organizations to unveil the largest grasslands legislative effort in history: The North American Grasslands Conservation Act. How to E-scout Big Woods for Whitetails
A majority of the public lands available to hunt whitetails in the North, South, and East are made up of tracts of forests—rather than the farmlands of the Midwest. In my opinion, the Appalachian region gives you the best opportunity to get away from the crowds and find adventure for that reason. Figuring out how to hunt these big tracts of timber can be overwhelming, but is far from impossible.
When this Minnesota buck appeared in Quality Whitetails, the consensus of our 5-member Age This panel was 2½ years of age, just like our newsletter poll results. He’s clearly slim and sleek overall, like a young deer, but with more muscle development than you’d expect to see in a yearling. Considering that his neck is slim and joins the body well above the brisket (especially just before peak rut), it’s unlikely he’s older.
Here's a New Age This! Buck
Mitch Reetz got this photo of a Michigan (central Lower Peninsula) buck on October 4. The rut peaks there in mid-November.

We'll publish the results in our next NDA e-newsletter, along with a new buck for you to age.
